Red Dot Design Award is the only world-leading design competition which owns a museum to showcase the award-winning works. The site of Red Dot Design Museum Essen is one of the important industrial heritages of the 20th century, listed in the World Heritage Sites in 2001 by the UNESCO. On an area of 4,000 square meters and with over 2,000 collections, Red Dot Design Museum Essen is regarded as the world’s largest museum for contemporary designs, attracting the visits of about 150,000 designers, enterprise delegates and design enthusiasts from around the world each year. The museum has turned Essen, the small city in western Germany, into a must-visit destination for the global designers.

Besides the “Design on stage”, the annual highlight of Red Dot exhibiting the award-winning works, part of the awarded products are selected as the permanent exhibits in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. Thus the museum has become a leading show field admired by the global brands, such as Apple, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Adidas, GROHE, etc., to represent their views and insights on design.

The visitors to the exhibition, wearing the G-shaped logo badge representing CGD’s spirit “the Path to Success”, were impressed by those high quality Chinese products and even wondered where to buy them. The visitors spoke highly of the designs and considered that, instead of the former stereotyped image of “low quality and cheap plagiarism”, those exhibits showcased professionally creative and innovative designs, a new profile of “Made in China” products. These designs are in an effort to address the combination of spiritual culture and material consumption, to offer better designs and more options for the users, to improve the visual environment through ingenious design, to maintain elegant oriental life in the globalised competition. These superior designs, rooting in the oriental philosophy and meeting with the international standards, make a perfect interpretation of “Contemparory Good Design”.
